WHOLEARTED

A WholeArtEd Approach to Art Education

Hi, I’m Danielle. After teaching Primary to VCE Visual Arts in schools for two decades, I started WholeArtEd in 2019 to provide more personalised & engaging Art, Craft & Design Classes for Children & Adults.

In small class sizes held in my leafy Blackburn Studio, I offer students opportunities to:

  • learn drawing, painting & 3D modelling skills (inc. drawing real objects)
  • extend their artistic competency at a pace that is enjoyably challenging for each individual
  • develop their creative thinking and problem solving ability
  • express their thoughts, ideas & emotions visually
  • gain self-confidence through developing their own unique artistic style
  • be inspired and encouraged by other like-minded classmates
  • appreciate artistic expressions from different historical, contemporary & cultural contexts
  • contribute to decision making about the themes and materials explored each term in order to be more engaged
build a firm foundation for all VCE level Visual Arts subjects

“The life of the arts, far from an interruption, a distraction, in the life of a nation, is close to the center of a nation’s purpose …”

Teaching Experience & Qualifications

After completing a Bachelor of Education Visual Arts (Design major) at Melbourne Uni, I taught Design, Art & Woodwork in London and the US for two years. From 1999-2021, I enjoyed teaching Grade 5 – Year 12 Art & Visual Communication Design mostly at Melbourne Private schools including Kilvington & Melbourne Grammar Schools. I was also actively involved in the Visual Communication Design Subject Association for several years.

Many of my paintings, sculptures & designs have been exhibited at galleries including 101 Collins St, Montsalvat & Motorworks Gallery.

My Visual Communication work has included designing logos, branding, packaging, advertising, interiors, magazine layouts and a cookbook. Photoshop editing, InDesign layouts & Photography being key components.

I love the challenge of planning projects that my students find engaging and designing custom programs for specific events. I wrote and taught the first ‘Woodshop’ program at Frost Valley Summer Camp, New York and the 2006 ‘Mini Masterchef’ Community Holiday Program in Box Hill. I enjoy organising every facet of customised Art Parties, such as a video guest appearance from an international Craft YouTuber.

Feel free to contact me if you or your child is keen to join an art class, explore a particular style/material or if you have a creative event in mind.
